Overview

A dedicated team of 16 teachers works diligently and enthusiastically each day to support the unique educational needs of students attending the Hospital School. Whenever possible, teachers use curriculum and materials from each student’s community school, helping them stay on track with assignments and projects during their hospital stay. Our teachers collaborate directly with community school educators to ensure that instruction is aligned and that students continue to make meaningful academic progress while hospitalized.

Parents and caregivers are vital partners in this process. They can support their child’s learning by sharing information about their child’s strengths, challenges, and interests, and by providing school materials such as books or assignments when available.

When assignments from community schools are not accessible, Hospital School teachers conduct brief, targeted assessments in math and literacy to determine each student’s academic level. These assessments guide the development of individualized instruction. Educational materials and strategies are thoughtfully chosen to meet each learner’s needs and may include library books, web-based resources, online learning platforms, small group instruction, hands-on activities, and one-on-one teaching.

As students prepare to leave the hospital, teachers coordinate closely with families and community school staff to ensure a smooth, positive transition back to their next educational setting. Our goal is to help every student maintain continuity in learning and feel confident as they move forward.
